Maldives amazing beaches
In what comes as little surprise, readers of the British magazine Condé Nast Traveller have named the Balearic Islands in Spain their favorite island destination in the world. It’s one of the most popular adult playgrounds for British revelers
, from the hedonistic and party den of Ibiza to the more tranquil, tropical and lush islands of Majorca, Minorca and Formentera, the archipelago that makes up the Balearic Islands.
According to the latest statistics available, Spain enjoyed a record summer for foreign visits, with 8.3 million international tourists flocking to the country in August -- the highest monthly number of tourists to Spain since record keeping began in 1995.
Leading the charge were British, French and German holidaymakers. And the Balearic Islands received 2.1 million of those visits -- the second most popular destination in Spain after the northeastern region of Catalonia.
While the Spanish isles got top marks for boasting the most “enticing” places to stay, readers say the best beaches in the world are found in the Maldives and Mauritius, while Sicily got top marks for its gastronomic offerings.
Here are the top 10 islands according to the magazine\'s Readers\' Travel Awards 2013:
1. Balearic Islands
2. Greek Islands
3. Maldives
4. Sicily
5. Seychelles
6. Mauritius
7. Barbados
8. St Lucia
9. Canary Islands

Meanwhile, in a similar survey, TripAdvisor users named Ambergris Caye off the north shore of Belize the most beautiful island in the world this year for its second largest barrier reef, Mayan ruins and lush tropical jungle forests.
