Etihad Airways Several thousand Etihad Airways passengers affected by disruptions at Abu Dhabi International Airport have now been able to resume their journeys, while others continue to be assisted by hundreds of extra Etihad Airways staff at the Abu Dhabi hub and across the airline's network.
A total of 6,600 passengers were impacted by delayed services yesterday, all of whom have since travelled out of Abu Dhabi International Airport. In addition, of the 3,100 passengers affected by cancelled services yesterday, 2,800 are expected to be re-accommodated today, the company said in a statement today.
Hotel accommodation has been provided in Abu Dhabi for more than a thousand guests who missed their onward connections and extra flights are being operated today to help clear the passenger backlog at the airport.
Over the course of today, flights have departed to a variety of destinations in the Middle East (including Bahrain, Kuwait, Doha, Medina, Dammam, Cairo, Baghdad and Beirut), Europe (including London, Geneva, Moscow, Larnaca, Belgrade and Belarus), Asia Pacific (including Bangkok, Singapore, Ho Chi Minh City, Chengdu, Maldives, Calicut and Dhaka), the Americas (including Sao Paulo and Washington D.C.) and Africa (including Khartoum and Seychelles).
The delays are due to the failure of the runway landing systems at Abu Dhabi International Airport during dense fog yesterday. These circumstances were beyond our control and we would once again like to apologise for the disruption and inconvenience experienced.
We are working around the clock to restore normal scheduled services and ensure that all affected passengers reach their final destination, the statement added.
