Sheikh Zayed Street and Tunnel project

Sheikh Zayed Street and Tunnel project, an important piece of Abu Dhabi's infrastructure, has been awarded a 2014 Global Road Achievement Award (GRAA) in the construction methodology category.
In its description of the project, IRF said, "The Sheikh Zayed Street and Tunnel are compliant with the highest construction standards and provided state-of-the art functionalities in traffic operation and management, allowing capabilities for integration into the Abu Dhabi City Traffic Management Plan. The size and the complexity of this project required strategic planning and input for an extensive list of stakeholders." Acting Director-General of the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City, Musabah Mubarak Al Marar, described the GRAA accolade as a further proof to the foresight of the wise government of Abu Dhabi who seeks to consolidate the emirate's infrastructure assets in line with its comprehensive development plans.
The project which falls under the responsibility of Abu Dhabi Municipality links with Abu Dhabi's new major developments and improves connectivity between landmarks in Abu Dhabi and provides a gateway to more development opportunities in the highly urbanised city and surrounding islands.
Al Marar added that in the context of its social responsibility and commitment towards driving the sustainable development in Abu Dhabi, and under a comprehensive strategy, the Abu Dhabi City Municipality has been long working on developing sustainable infrastructural solutions including massive infrastructure projects involving flyovers and underpasses to streamline mobility within the city, reduce congestion, save transit time and effort and ensure traffic safety.
Every year, the GRAAs, organised by International Road Federation (IRF) honour nine road projects from around the world, each leading the way in innovation and excellence.
Earlier this month, Sheikh Zayed Street and Tunnel project bagged the Grand Award of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of Metropolitan Washington.
