Pierre Sadek was a pioneer in moving TV caricatures which is now famous worldwide The Lebanese Minister of Information Walid Daouk presented cartoonist Pierre Sadek with the National Order of the Cedar Commander class, in recognition of his creative achievements. The award took place at a ceremony at his home in Broummana in the presence of media personality Mona Herawi, Viviane Saliba Dagher representing the Press Syndicate Chief Muhammad Baalbecki and other dignitaries. The Order was given to Sadek on behalf of President Michel Sleiman.
After presenting the medal and offering congratulations, Minister Daouk said: “I had the honour of presenting Pierre with the National Order of the Cedar ‘Commander’ class. We all know that being a cartoonist is hard work, especially when it manages to summarise an entire day’s news in one single stroke.”
Daouk added: “Pierre Sadek was the first to invent the moving TV caricature that has since become famous the world over. He is one of the pioneers of the cartoon.”
Sadek thanked the President for the gesture. He added the medal does not honour him personally, but Lebanon as a whole.
