Marathon runners race inside the Old City of Jerusalem A senior Palestinian official asked the U.S. network NBC not to film the new drama series "Dig" in Jerusalem, saying it legitimizes annexation of the city. "Such a production will legitimize the annexation of Jerusalem and the destruction of the authenticity and character of the occupied city. Any business organisation that deals with Israel in Occupied Palestine is a flagrant breach of international law, conventions and consensus, respectively," Dr. Hanan Ashrawi, an executive member of the Palestinian Liberation Organization, was quoted as saying by the Palestine News Network.
The action-adventure series is described as a murder mystery at an archaeological site in the capital's Old City and uncovers a conspiracy extending back to 2,000 years, the New York Times said.
Israeli authorities and Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat welcomed the series.
"When we combine Hollywood's creative potential with Jerusalem's historic backdrop, it will result in the ability to connect hundreds of millions of viewers around the world to this unique and beautiful city. There is an undeniable inspiration and creative energy in Jerusalem, which is why it has become a centre for international film production," a statement issued by Barkat's office said.
