Dubai - Arab Today
The UAE on Tuesday launched the biggest e-learning platform in the Arab world which will benefit over 50 million students in the region, from Kindergarten to Grade 12.
The site, www.madrasa.org, was launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai in a ceremony held at Madinat Jumeirah.
The platform is the outcome of a translation challenge that witnessed the participation of thousands of volunteers who helped translate Arabic, math and science material from 5,000 English videos and 11 million words.
New knowledge base
It lays a foundation of a new knowledge base, and focuses on providing supporting academic material on subjects including physics, chemistry, biology, general sciences and mathematics.
The material is now accessible to every student in the world for free through the Madrasa website.
During the ceremony, a large competition for students was also announced on the platform which will provide 1000 dollars everyday for 1000 days.
The platform will give away a total of 1 million dollars in rewards for students who will be eligible to enter a draw after answering competition questions on the website.
“Last year I said the first priority is education, second priority is education and the third priority is education, today i’d like to tell you that this is just the beginning and we are going to continue,” said Shaikh Mohammad.
The platform was launched as part of the e-learning project launched in 2017 which aims to bridge the education gap in the Arab world.
