Wife of Sharjah governor, founder of Friends of Cancer Patients association, ambassador of the International Union against Cancer, Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi received the Good Government award for 2017 “Charity” person, in appreciation to her work in social services sector in UAE and its generous initiative to eliminate cancer and non-contagious diseases.
Chairman of the Board of Friends of Cancer Patients, Sawsan Jafar received the prize on her behave during the ceremony that was held in Fairmont Palm hotel & resort in Dubai, with the presence of high officials, international companies, and workers in social and humanitarian services.
Sawsan praised Sheikha Jawaher achievements and her humanitarian commitment in fighting cancer in UAE and the world, which helped her to win this award. Sawsan also said that, sheikh Jawaher has always worked to improve caner patients’ lives, and this is the charity year in UAE, and nothing can express this better than Friends of Cancer Patients’ efforts, which Jawaher established and supported to serve the community.
As an ambassador of the International Union against Cancer, Sheikha Jawaher opened “Sharjah Lab” in Francis Creek Institute in London, which is considered the biggest center for Biomedical Research in Europe.
With the help of her instructions, Friends of Cancer Patients association managed to host the first Global Forum of the Alliance of Non-contagious Diseases Organizations in Sharjah, which was considered a key criterion in fighting life style diseases in Middle East and South Africa.
The forum was held under the slogan “Responsibility towards non-contagious diseases after 2015”, with the presence of 206 representatives from 173 international health organizations and 43 coalition of local and regional organizations. The forum managed to draw a road map to fight these diseases, and showed the results of cooperation. The second forum will be held in Sharjah between December 9 and 11, 2017.
Friends of Cancer Patients association has offered financial and mental support to 3700 patients, disregarding their nationality, gender, religion, age or race. Sheikha Jawaher formed this association to limit cancer in UAE and raise awareness about this disease among the society.
The association launched the first World Sports March “Relay for Life” in the Middle East and South Africa, in cooperation with US Cancer Society, to support cancer patients and their families in UAE, and opens the door for them to participate in sports, charitable, and entertainment activities, in order to increase their hope of retreatment.
The association also provides help for the patients through “Color my life” program, and other initiatives like, The Pink Caravan for breast cancer and “Umrah for cancer patients” program, which help the patients to do Umrah and pilgrimage with donations’ money. The association also pays treatment expenses for those who can’t afford them.
