SIGI: Gender equality has not reached Jordan yet

SIGI: Gender equality has not reached Jordan yet Amman – Iman Abu Kaoud A Jordanian women\'s NGO has marked February 20’s World Day of Social Justice by releasing a statement claiming gender equality has yet to reach the country. Jordan’s Sisterhood Is Global Institute (SIGI) demanded social, economic and political rights for women.
Equality in job opportunities, training, wages and access to health and legal services were still a long way off, the group claimed.
“Social justice means the absence of poverty, marginalisation and social, political, economic and culture exclusion,” the SIGI statement said, adding that equality would benefit sustainable development in Jordan.
The annual World Day of Social Justice was established in 2007 following a UN General Assembly declaration, which claimed the international community had to work harder towards achieving gender equality and social justice for populations across the world.
