Sajaya Summer Program workshops

Sajaya Young Ladies of Sharjah, formerly known as Sharjah Girls Centres, has concluded its 2015 Summer Programme, themed "Futurism", which was held across all its branches in Sharjah, Kalba and Khorfakkan from August 2nd to 26th.

The programme, which involved the participation of nearly 500 young ladies, aimed to develop the personal and professional skills of Emirati young ladies and prepare national girls’ competencies in new innovative areas, in line with the national strategy for Emirati girls’  empowerment and capacity building so as to increase their effective participation in all fields.

Based on the vision of HH Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, the wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, the one-month programme was designed to guide Emirati young ladies and direct them to choose their academic path and future career.

Sajaya’s young ladies got the opportunity to engage in hands-on workshops and practice different professions that they selected from among several disciplines, including science and inventions, art, music, fashion design, crafts, photography, filmmaking, astronomy and space science, so as to ensure wider participation of young ladies in these fields and support their roles as key players in the comprehensive development experienced by the UAE in all arenas.

The programme, which was implemented in two phases, the first was from August 2nd-13th, and the second one from August 16th to 26th, included various training workshops on crochet art, inventions, music, photography, movie direction, montage and filmmaking, as well as trainings on fashion design and different forms of art, while exploring the world of robots.


The participants learnt about new professions and gained experience in the disciplines of their choice during sessions dedicated to directing and helping the young ladies how to choose their future path and career.

The programme also included a workshop on national service that allowed the participating young ladies to visit various departments and sections at Sharjah Police.

Along with several trips to Sharjah Media Incorporation departments to expand their knowledge about media world. The young ladies also participated in a trip to the Sharjah Centre for Astronomy and Space Sciences where they engaged in hands-on learning experience through game-like models about the formation of the universe and astronomy along with a fantastic trip to the "Ice Land" in Ras Al Khaimah.

HE Aisha Khalid Al Qasimi, Director of Sajaya Young Ladies of Sharjah, said:" We are very pleased to see such a great response by the Emirati young ladies, signifying their eagerness to discover what they love and what they want to be and how they want to invest their time. This impressive response also reflects the enthusiasm of young ladies to strengthen their roles and efficient contribution to serve their nation and consolidate their effective involvement in the building of their country, alongside their male counterparts, by entering new domains and non-traditional careers.”

She added: “We sought this year to have unique and new professions and disciplines included in the 2015 summer programme, in order to provide our young ladies with the tools and expertise needed to qualify them for excellence and creativity in those professions.”

A number of government organisations participated in presenting training workshops, namely Soogha, an organization affiliated to Khalifa Fund, which presented a workshop on Talli  craft, and Sharjah Media Incorporation, which presented a workshop on Directed Film, while the Sharjah Police presented a workshop on National Service.

The Women’s Sport Department organised the Open Sports Day, while the Department of Culture and Information in Khorfakkan collaborated in presenting a workshop on project management, and Dr. Laila Habib Al Buloushi, Chief Executive of Al Gharbia Consultancy and Training, presented two discussions on how can young ladies choose their future career.

Also participating in the summer programme was Director Nawaf Mohammed Al Janahi who talked about the Emirati cinema industry, while Hamdan Innovation Incubator presented a workshop on marketing via Instagram.

The closing ceremony of the summer program of Sajaya Young Ladies of Sharjah the artist also attended  by the artist Ali Alloush as a guest of honor and he introduced a  speech about his inspiring success story where the girls interacted with him in an atmosphere of joy and fun.
