National News Agency Director, Laure Sleiman Saab, welcomed on Monday Sri Lankan Ambassador to Lebanon, Wijeratne Mendis, with whom she discussed the best means to bolster cooperation between the two countries, especially within the media and cultural fields.

On emerging, Mendis said that talks mainly focused on the celebrations that would be held by Sri Lanka marking its 70th anniversary, in addition to celebrating twenty years since the establishment of diplomatic ties between Lebanon and Sri Lanka.

"I wanted to inform Sleiman about the programs planned by the Sri Lankan Embassy to celebrate these two events and about planning the launch of a competition in cooperation with the Lebanese Ministry of Culture, as well as the need to advertise this event to promote the other face of Sri Lanka," Mendis said.

"Sri Lanka is one of the largest countries sending workers to Lebanon. It has a history of more than 25 years and is one of the pioneering countries in South Asia," she added, calling for strengthening and developing cooperation between her country and Lebanon at the cultural, economic, and tourism levels
