More than 20 Bahraini artists took part in the Art Bahrain Across Borders (Art BAB), held in Mumbai, India, in the presence of the President of the Shiv Sena Party, Uddhav Thackeray, and his son, Aditya Thackeray, the founder of the Yuva Sena, in addition to many officials and interested people.
On the occasion, Director-General of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of HM the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), Shaikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa, extended sincere thanks to HRH Princess Sabeeka for her unwavering support for Bahraini artists, which, she said, has contributed t spurring and enriching the fine art movement in the kingdom.
Shaikha Maram asserted that such artistic fairs will pave the way for national artistic works to interact with their counterparts in other countries, and promote Bahrain’s status as a centre for cultural enlightenment.
HRH Princess Sabeeka’s support for and patronage of the ArtBAB initiative provided an opportunity for the event to move to many capital and world cities, which will promote Bahrain’s artistic movement, as well as its tourism and cultural fields, she said.
Shaikha Maram explained that the fair was held in India as part of the memorandum of understanding signed between HRH Princess Saabeeka’s Office and the Labour Fund, “Tamkeen” to encourage and support Bahraini artists in Bahrain and abroad.
She added that India was selected to host the ArtBAB fair thanks to its outstanding and multiple artistic schools, noting that the fair featured 40 artistic works that tackled diverse topics and themes.
ArtBAB will hold a Bahrain Art Week in London in December, and a fair in Moscow in mid 2018.
