HE the President of Administrative Control and Transparency Authority Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah today gave a lecture for Georgetown University- Qatar students on the Lebanese Republic between the Past and the Present. During the lecture, HE Al-Attiyah spoke about the ancient and modern history of Lebanon, the existing political parties, the role of the Lebanese parliament in the electoral process, government formation and the constitution. HE Al-Attiyah pointed to the doctrinal and sectarian diversity in Lebanon, as well as religious differences and the presence of Christians and Muslims, referring in this respect to the coexistence among all the Lebanese. He also touched on the political situation which the region is going through, saying that Lebanon is geographically located between Syria and Israel, a position that made it passing through sensitive conditions rendering it different from other countries in the region.
