Australian aid worker Kerry Jane Wilson

An Australian humanitarian worker kidnapped in Afghanistan in April has been released, Australia’s Foreign Minister Julie Bishop revealed Monday.
Kerry Jane Wilson, 60, was working for a local NGO when she was kidnapped from her office by armed men wearing military uniforms in the eastern city of Jalalabad, near the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.
"I confirm that Kerry Jane Wilson has been released, and she is now safe and well," Bishop said.
"I deeply appreciate the work of the authorities in Afghanistan whose support and assistance facilitated her release, as well as Australian consular staff who continue to provide assistance to Wilson and her family," Bishop added.
Earlier this month, an Australian academic and an American professor were kidnapped by unknown armed men in Kabul. Their situation is still unknown.
