Head of the cultural, media and antiquities committee of the House of Representatives Osama Heikal has called on China to support Egypt's candidate for the post of UNESCO director general Mushira Khattab.
Heikal's call came in a meeting with the deputy head of cultural, history and studies committee at the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference who is leading a Chinese delegation to Egypt.
The meeting tackled historical cooperation relations between the Egyptian and Chinese peoples and means to protect the heritage in both countries.
Heikal pointed out to a problem in financing the operation of renovating Egyptian antiquities as a result of the decline in number of tourists coming to Egypt.
Head of the Chinese delegation voiced admiration for Egypt's parliament's history and invited the house committee members to visit China.
