Minister of Civil Aviation Sherif Fathy on Tuesday inaugurated the upgrade project of Hangar 7000 at EgyptAir Maintenance and Engineering Company.
EgyptAir Holding Comany Safwat Musallam and EgyptAir Maintenance and Engineering Company Abu Taleb Tawfiq and a number of civil aviation officials attended the inauguration ceremony.
In statements on Tuesday, Fathy asserted the importance of continuing the upgrade plans to enable the civil aviation sector to increase its competitive abilities at the international markets, pressing the need for more future plans to cope up with the latest technologies in this field.
EgyptAir Holding Company Chairman Safwat Musallam, for his part, said Hangar 7000 project was carried out according to schedule along with the upgrade of the EgyptAir planes fleet to meet the technical needs of customers of EgyptAir maintenance company, one of the biggest specialized companies in the Middle East and Africa.
EgyptAir Holding Company Chairman and CEO Safwat Mussallam said the upgrade of Hangar 7000 project comes as part of efforts exerted by EgyptAir Maintenance Company to increase its technical abilities and get the approval of the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and enlarge the capacity of the company's hangars to house customers' planes whether locally or internationally.
EgyptAir Maintenance Company Chairman Abu Taleb Tawfiq, for his part, said the project will increase the company's technical abilities and support its expansion plans at the international markets.
Hangar 7000 upgrade project included the overall renovation of the two-storey building exterior and their isolation materials to resist fires along with the establishment of an automated fire alert system that meets international safety and quality standards.
The hangar is built and covered with special steel structure and trusses, an annex building, a services building, a store and tarmac & washing planes area, planes washing pumping station, a water tank, elevated water tower, roads and networks (electricity,water & sewage). It is established to house Boeing B777-300, B737-800 and B777-200 planes on an area of 6,200 square meters and will serve 130 clients from various international airliners.
