European Commissioner for Justice, Consumer Issues and Gender Equality Vera Jourova

Slovakia should deal with the establishment of the office of European Prosecutor and the enlargement of common European criminal records during its Council of EU Presidency, European Commissioner for Justice, Consumer Issues and Gender Equality Vera Jourova said at a press briefing here on Friday.

The office of European Prosecutor is designed to make more efficient the prosecution of deeds that pose a damage to EU's financial interests, whereas the European criminal records are aimed to bolster the fight against cross-border criminal activities and terrorism.

Jourova hopes that Slovakia will come up with lots of positive ideas during its EU Presidency.

"I'm looking forward to the cooperation with the country," added Jourova.

"The new Government guarantees the pro-European stance of Slovakia," stressed Justice Minister Lucia Zitnanska. She added that the electronic information exchange system of criminal records is bound to guarantee a safer Europe.
