Consul General of Egypt in Shanghai Khaled Youssef participated in the opening of China International Travel Mart (CITM).

The move is part of ongoing efforts to promote Egyptian tourism in China.

The CITM - to wrap up work on Sunday - includes 2,500 pavilions of travel agents worldwide. Some 11 Egyptian exhibitors take part in the event. The Egyptian tourism office in China also participates in it.

Youssef told MENA correspondent in Beijing on Saturday that the biennial CITM is an important market for tourism and travel in China.

The market creates a significant opportunity for attracting tourists, he said, pointing out that about 170 million Chinese tourists traveled abroad in 2016 and spent dlrs 140 billion.

The market is also a unique chance for the Egyptian tourism sector to interact with Chinese travel agents and the business community in China, said Youssef.

He added some 115,000 Chinese tourists visited Egypt in 2015 and the number is expected to jump to 200,000 in 2016.

CITM is the largest professional travel trade event in China and the only one sanctioned by the China National Tourism Administration. It is the primary event in China for finding targeted buyers and getting access to the fastest growing market in the world.
