Egypt's embassy in Rome follows up death case of Egyptian in Italy

The Egyptian Embassy in Rome is follows up with great interest ongoing investigation into the death of Egyptian national Mohamed Baher Sobhi, Egypt's Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said Thursday.

The Egyptian ambassador to Italy visited Naples two days ago and met with members of the team in charge of investigation into the incident, he added.

The ambassador also helped a relative of the victim in efforts to recognize his body, he said.

Also, the deputy head of the Egyptian mission in Italy traveled to Naples and watched the relevant video records of the railway station where the body of the victim was found, Abu Zeid added.

The Egyptian ambassador in Rome, moreover, met with officials at the Italian Foreign Ministry to assert the importance of follow-up to the investigation process by the Italian side and the keenness of the Egyptian government and the family of the victim on getting posted on the reasons behind the killing as soon as possible, the spokesman said.

A separate memorandum was forwarded to the Italian side with a request to have a detailed forensic report on the incident, he added.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry will continue to follow up any development in the investigation, he concluded.
