The Federal National Council, FNC, Education, Cultural, Youth, Sports and Media Affairs Committee continued it discussion today on the policy of the National Media Council, NMC.
The discussion took place during the committee’s meeting at the headquarters of the FNC General Secretariat in Dubai, chaired by Naema Abdullah Al Sharhan and attended by Hamad Ahmed Al Rahoumi, Committee Rapporteur, Saeed Saleh Al Rumaithi, Mohammed Ali Al Ketbi, Aisha Salem bin Samnoh and Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalaita. Dr. Jaber Al Zaabi, Assistant Secretary-General for Meetings and Committees, attended the meeting on behalf of the FNC General Secretariat.
Al Sharhan stated that the committee presented, to the NMC representatives, its related notes and the suggestions of representatives of the national media who they previously met with regarding media legislation, to keep pace with the recent rapid media developments.
She added that the committee discussed various related issues, which focussed on the NMC’s role in updating and developing media legislation, promoting Emiratisation, supporting national media personnel, and promoting national identity and positive behaviour. It also discussed the NMC’s monitoring and management of various types of publications, and its role in communicating with foreign communities in the country, she further added.
Al Sharhan pointed out that the committee asked the NMC representatives to provide it with statistics and information related to the topic, with the aim of enriching the discussion and creating applicable recommendations, to benefit their efforts to improve the work of the government and the media.
The committee also reviewed the decision of the UAE Cabinet regarding the FNC’s recommendations on a policy to strengthen the stature of the Arabic language.
