German Minister of Foreign Affairs Frank-Walter Steinmeier arrived Wednesday in Uzbekistan on the first leg of his three-day visit to Central Asia.
German Foreign Minister is scheduled to hold talks with the political leadership of the former Soviet republic on the strengthening of bilateral relations.
Steinmeier's tour will also include the former Soviet Union Republics Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
The German Minister stressed the great strategic importance of Central Asia, saying that although the region does not have enough international attention, his country is keen on its relations with the countries of this region.
German military used until last year Uzbekistan's Termez air base, in the south of Uzbekistan, to carry out its tasks in neighboring Afghanistan.
