Former Egyptian premier Hisham Qandil was sent Wednesday to Mazr'a prison in Tura facility in line with a court ruling, a security source said. In statements to MENA Wednesday, the source said Qandil was deported under tight security to the prison. The interior ministry said Qandil – who served as premier under toppled president Mohamed Morsi - was caught Tuesday in a mountainous area with smugglers trying to flee to Sudan. Qandil was sentenced to a year in prison while in office for not carrying out a court ruling to re-nationalize a company that was privatized in 1996. A Cairo appeals court upheld the sentence in September, two months after the military overthrew Morsi.
