Italian Prime Minister and President of the European Union Council Matteo Renzi will start an official visit Saturday to Cairo to underline support for an Egyptian ceasefire initiative for the Gaza Strip.
Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El Sisi will receive Renzi during his few hours' visit, diplomatic Italian sources said.
The Italian prime minister is also planned to meet with Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri to discuss regional issues, especially the situation in Gaza and Libya.
