Jordanian FM, Iraqi counterpart discuss relations

The Jordanian Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs, Ayman Safadi, and his Iraqi counterpart, Ibrahim al-Jaafari, have discussed the crisis in the Iraqi Kurdistan region.

According to the Jordan News Agency, Al-Jaafari briefed Safadi during a telephone call on developments in the crisis between the Kurdistan region and the Iraq's central government as a result of the unilateral independence referendum, and on measures taken by the Iraqi government to deal with the crisis, according to the Iraqi constitution and in a manner that maintains the unity of Iraq and its people.

The Foreign Minister underlined the importance of resolving the crisis and avoiding any escalation through dialogue and according to the constitution, in order to preserve Iraq's unity and cohesion of all components of the Iraqi people.

Safadi said Iraq's stability and security is a pillar of region's security and stability, voicing Jordan's support to the Iraqi government in its efforts toward establishing security and stability, reconstruction and the establishment of a state of citizenship based on the laws and the Iraqi constitution.
