Cairo - Arab Today
Minister of Local Development Hisham el Sherif and Cairo governor Atef Abdel Hamid will lay the foundation stone of the new Al Tunsi marketplace on Tuesday in El Basateen district.
Deputy Housing Minister Ahmed Darwish will be also present during the ceremony.
In earlier statements, Abdel Hamid said the establishment of the project will take about 24 months at a cost of 180 million pounds.
The old market, carrying the same name, was located in the popular Al-Sayeda Aisha street. Many fires have gutted the market before, the latest of which occurred in November of 2016, forcing the government to relocate it.
The old market opens Friday and Sunday. It is known for its cheap antiques, garments, furniture and household appliances.
