President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has issued Federal Decree 179 for 2016, appointing Mohammed bin Hamad Al Badi as president of the Federal Supreme Court.
Sheikh Khalifa also issued Federal decree 178 for 2016, referring Dr. Abdul Wahab Mir Ahmed Abdoul for retirement from his duties as president of the Federal Supreme Court, for reaching retirement age.
Article 2 of each decree stipulates that the relevant authorities shall execute provisions of the decree, which will be effective from the date of issuance and will be published in the official gazette.
Counsellor Mohammed bin Hamad Al Badi holds a law degree from the United Arab Emirates University. He served as a judge at the Sharia Justice Department in the Sharia courts of first instances in Al Ain and Abu Dhabi.
He held several positions, including the attorney general in 1999, secretary-general of the General Authority for Awqaf in 2004 and advisor to the justice minister in 2007. Until his appointment, he had served as the justice ministry's under-secretary.
He also served as member in the board of directors of several entities and as head of committees.
