Myanmar Mufti Abdul Salam Mantin arrived here Sunday morning coming from UAE to attend an international conference organized by Egypt’s Darul Iftaa.
Themed “Scholarly Preparation, Fatwa Issuance Training for Imams in Muslim Minority Communities”, the two-day conference will kick off on Monday under the auspices of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.
Muftis and religious leaders from 80 countries will take part in the event organized by the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide.
Shawki Allam, the Grand Mufti of Egypt and president of the conference, has earlier said that the conference represents the first serious attempt to link fatwa organizations to Muslim communities in the west as regards fatwa-related issues and correcting misconceptions about Islam.
The conference will discuss a number of vital issues related to Muslim minorities in western countries and how to prepare Imams to handle extremism and encounter the challenges facing Muslim communities.
Grand Imam of Al Azhar Ahmed el Tayyeb will deliver the conference’s inauguration speech.
The General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide is the first specialized scholarly authority compromising 21 muftis from across the globe to work to promote moderate Islamic teachings.
The General Secretariat was established on December 15, 2015 at Egypt’s Darul Iftaa premises in Cairo
