Many volunteers take time off their annual leave to serve in the Pink Caravan

You see them every year: an army in pink going around the country either on foot or on horseback to talk to you about detecting breast cancer early on.

These hundreds of volunteers for the Pink Caravan Ride are the backbone of the annual campaign. Their hard work and dedication ensure that the ride is successful year after year.

Over the last six years, these riders and volunteers of all nationalities and from all parts of the UAE, along with specialised nursing and medical staff, and administrative and supervisory committees, have dedicated a total of 202,790 volunteer hours in serving the campaign’s efforts — equivalent to working every hour for 23 solid years.

These unpaid hours, often taken from the volunteers’ personal time, manifest the volunteers’ generosity and selflessness

We talk to two of the more than a hundred unsung heroes of Pink Caravan to know their story, why they do it, and what they find rewarding in the annual campaign.
