Afghan President Hamid Karzai left for Tehran on Sunday on an official invitation of the Iranian President Dr. Hasan Rouhani. The presidential palace media office issued a statement saying that President Hamid Karzai will hold talks with the Iranian president and other Iranian officials on the improvement of bilateral ties. Karzai's visit to Iran comes amid growing tensions between Kabul and Washington to sign the bilateral security agreement, according to the Afghan (Khaama Press). The Iranian foreign ministry last week once again reiterated Tehran's stance on Afghan-US security deal, and called the signing of the security agreement against the national interest of Afghanistan and a threat to the region.
