Moldovans headed to the polls on Sunday in a runoff vote for the first direct presidential election in 20 years, with the pro-Russia candidate seen as the likely victor over his pro-EU opponent.
Pro-Russia candidate Igor Dodon received almost half of the votes in the regular election two weeks ago, but because no candidate garnered a majority, the election headed to a runoff. Pro-EU candidate Maia Sandu was in second place with about 40% of the votes, according to the (dpa).
