Heavy rains hit Egypt's Red Sea governorate

Transport Minister Galal Saeed checked on the roads that were hard hit by torrential rains and flooding over the past few days.

The minister inspected roads linking Suez, Ain Sokhna, Hurghada and Safaga as well as roads linking the Red Sea with Upper Egypt to make sure they are now safe for drivers.

Acting upon the directives of Prime Minister Sherif Ismail, the minister called on the General Authority For Roads, Bridges & Land Transport to take all immediate measures to reopen the Ain Sokhna-Hurghada road within 24 hours.

Heavy rains caused flooding in several towns in Upper Egypt and along the Red Sea coast on Wednesday and Thursday. Ras Gharib was hit by unprecedented rainfall that reached 120 million cubic meters.
