President-Elect Donald Trump

President-Elect Donald Trump is set to name Rex Tillerson, the chief executive of Exxon-Mobil oil company, to be his secretary of state, according to multiple media outlets in the US  Tillerson has no political experience but has made deals in many parts of the world over the course of several decades as an oil company executive.
Tillerson is said to be close to Russian President Vladimir Putin. He concluded a deal for Exxon in the 1990s on Russia's Sakhalin Island and reportedly became friends with Putin afterward.
That could be an obstacle for Tillerson's confirmation in the Senate in the current climate of agitation over Russia. The CIA on Friday, without providing evidence, said Russia was behind hacks into Democratic Party emails, but did not say Moscow hacked into election machines.
Last week White House spokesman Josh Earnest said the US intelligence community "did not observe an increase in malicious cyber-activity on Election Day from the Russians that was directed at disrupting the casting or counting of ballots." Trump has spent a month deciding on who his top diplomat would be. He had considered former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who has no international experience, but Giuliani said Friday he would take no job in the Trump administration.
Former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, who had harshly criticized Trump during the campaign, was also considered.
