Turkish court imposes foreign travel ban on co-chair of Kurdish opposition. Co-chairs of the pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP)

The co-leader of Turkey’s pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) was banned from traveling abroad by a Turkish court on grounds of being a member of an armed terrorist group.

Figen Yuksekdag, co-chair of the leftist People’s Democratic Party (HDP), was also accused of “terrorist propaganda” and banned from leaving Turkey “because of activities that indicate she might flee” abroad, Skynews reported on Sunday.

The HDP denounced the decision as “totally arbitrary” and said it would appeal.

The move could aggravate tensions with several pro-Kurdish demonstrations planned Sunday across the country, including in Istanbul and Diyarbakir, the largest city in predominantly Kurdish southeastern Turkey.
