The U.S. assistant secretary of state for population, refugees, and migration will travel to Turkey and Jordan April 3 to 8 for talks on the humanitarian situation in Syria, particularly refugees from the civil war, the State Department announced .
In Ankara, Assistant Secretary Anne Richard will meet with Turkish government officials and representatives of international and non-governmental organizations to discuss the situation in Syria and the more than 200,000 refugees and asylum-seekers from other countries living in Turkey, the department said in a statement.
In Istanbul, the U.S. diplomat will participate in a meeting on the Syrian refugee situation and meet with refugees and U.S.-funded institutions that support them, the statement said.
In Jordan, Richard will visit the Azraq refugee camp, which houses more than 17,000 of the 627,000 refugees registered in the country. She also will meet with refugees, humanitarian aid organizations, and government officials, the department said.
