US Navy Commander arrives in Egypt

Commander of US Naval Forces Central Command Vice Admiral Kevin Donegan arrived here Sunday to meet with senior Egyptian officials and discuss shared security interests. 

Admiral Donegan, who assumed command in September, 2015, plans to discuss US-Egypt collaboration and the long-standing partnership between the two countries in fighting terrorism and promoting security and stability in the region, said a statement by the US Embassy in Cairo on Sunday. 

US Naval Forces Central Command is responsible for approximately 2.5 million square miles of area including the Arabian Gulf, Gulf of Oman, North Arabian Sea, Gulf of Aden, and the Red Sea, added the statement. 

The US Naval Forces Central Command’s mission is to conduct maritime security operations, strengthen security cooperation efforts, and strengthen partner nations' maritime capabilities in order to promote security and stability in the US 5th Fleet area of operations, noted the statement.
