World Government Summit kicks off in Dubai

The fifth session of the World Government Summit kicked off here on Sunday with 4,000 delegates and 150 speakers from 139 countries attending.

Addressing the opening, UAE Minister Of State for Cabinet Affairs Mohamed Abdullah Gergawi said this summit is of importance as it takes place at a time some world states are rejecting the current shape of globalization, blaming it for harming their economies.

He added that this anti-globalization trend should be confronted with technology.

"This is just a stage of the shifting of events; an attempt to try to find solutions."

The summit is hosting the first international gathering of experts on happiness under the title Global Dialogue for Happiness — a quality that has been formalized by the UAE as an intrinsic aspect of its national agenda.

Over 4,000 global and regional delegates, including heads of state and Nobel laureates are taking part in the fifth edition of the World Government Summit, making it the largest participation of its kind since the event was first launched in 2013.
