We are all victims of office stress since none of us are meditative geniuses who aren't affected by the world around us. A typical day at work involves an ever-increasing work load, office politics, tasteless canteen food, and an omnipresent (annoying, we might add) boss - constantly breathing down your neck. What do you do? How do you deal with it? If such questions plague your 10 to 6pm existence, then listen up. We give you 6 essential tips that will help you beat job stress. Stay calm: When the job gets to you, take a break. Get chatty, talk to someone, listen to music or take a cat nap. Relieve your mind of all problems. This will help you think clearly, get a new perspectives and new ideas. Often, staying calm is confused with beind laidback or unaffected. To be calm is to be composed and understand when you are approaching your threshold of anger and irritation. Switching to a different project, taking a walk to the water cooler, or simply watching a funny video will work wonders for your nerves. Avoid coffee: Take a break but not a coffee break. Coffee consumption will make you tense. Caffeine will pump up your adrenaline and reduce adenosine which is a natural relaxant in your brain. Be rational: Anger and stress has a source, and it's best to understand the source of this rage and deal with it head on. You know what they say, 'you gotta know the enemy.' This will help you nip the stress in the bud. Meditate: Stressed out? Take a chill pill, but that's passe. It's time to meditate. If you can't take a walk or part from your desk practise relaxing Asanas to help you free yourself from the bondages of your work. Be happy mentally and physically with some yoga exercises. Keep professional and personal lives separate: This can go vice versa, office stress can affect your personal relationship and personal relationship can affect your professional life. Draw a line in between the two and make sure to stick to it. Co-workers: Stay away from negative co-workers, be assertive and not authoritative, but if they still hang around you, listen to them but be diplomatic in your response. Talk politely and respect others, learn to say no or else you are going to be flooded with someone else's work all the time.
