African swine fever

An outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) has been reported in a Lithuanian pig complex on Thursday, according to BNS news agency.
The Lithuanian State Food and Veterinary Service said that ASF has been confirmed in a large farm complex in Ignalina district which locates at the northeast part of the Baltic country.
The complex belongs to the Danish-owned pig producer Idavang. Around 20,000 pigs are kept in the complex.
"That outbreak is strange. All hogcotes in that complex are infected - with two, three infected pigs in each," Jonas Milius, head of the State Food and Veterinary Service, was quoted by local media as saying.
The State Food and Veterinary Service was monitoring the situation at the complex and was conducting an investigation, according to BNS.
This is the first case of ASF in domestic pigs in the Baltic country, said BNS.
The first case of AFS was detected on two boars hunted down in January, 2014, in Salcininkai and Alytus-Varena districts which locate at the southeast part of Lithuania, neighboring Belarus.
