A two-year-old boy who was born with internal female reproductive organs recently underwent a successful surgery in the capital to have the organs removed. The surgery, which was conducted at Al Noor Hospital — Airport Road, involved the removal of the female organs, which included an intact uterus, part of a vagina and Fallopian tubes. In addition, the boy\'s testicles were present inside his body, and these were lowered to the outside. The two and a half hour procedure was conducted on the boy, who hails from Singapore, by Dr Ameen Al Gohary, consultant and chief of paediatric surgery at the hospital. \"No complications occurred during the surgery, and we expect to send the boy home by the end of the week,\" Dr Al Gohary, who has performed six other similar procedures over the last 17 years, told Gulf News. Despite the fact that he is a boy, the absence of an important hormone during his development in the womb allowed for the formation of the female reproductive organs,\" the surgeon explained. The case was first discovered when the parents of the boy took him to a hospital in Singapore, where they reside.
