The British government said Monday that it will set up a medical treatment center for victims of the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone.
"Military and humanitarian experts will set up a medical treatment center for victims of the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone," International Development Secretary Justine Greening said in a statement.
The minister added that "the 62 bed facility will be built and operated by military engineers and medical staff." "The initial phase of the facility will be constructed and operational within eight weeks," the statement said.
The British support follows a direct request from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the government of Sierra Leone for assistance in containing the outbreak.
Meanwhile, British Prime Minister David Cameron asserted, during a telephone call with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, on coordinating global efforts to confront the Ebola disease in West Africa. (end) mrn.mb
