Fast-food restaurants

The spread of fast-food restaurants in the Algerian society has "significantly" contributed to increasing the number of patients with chronic diseases, medical experts said.
In this regard, head of the cardiology wing of at Nafisa-Hamoud University Hospital (Ex-Parnet), Professor Djamaleddine Nibouche warned against changing the lifestyle in our society and the multiplication of fast-food restaurants which have "significantly" contributed to the spread of the chronic diseases.
The expert regretted quitting healthy eating by our society, stressing that the Algerians are now facing the negative impacts of better living standards and the overconsumption of carbohydrates, meat, fat and soft drinks, likewise the developed countries.
Over-consuming meals rich in fat has become a social phenomenon, particularly due to the spread of fast foods, said Professor Nibouche, who sounded the alarm about the overuse of "shawarma and grilled meat" which often lead to heart problems and cancer.
He called on the local authorities to restrict the opening of fast-food restaurants near educational institutions, which favors the early appearance of heart disease, diabetes and hypertension among the youth, in addition to the overweight.
This business is very attractive for young traders, since it is not expensive and doesn’t require huge human and material resources, it generates significant gains due to the high influx of people on this type of food.
