Emirati volunteer doctors at the UAE-Bangladesh voluntary field hospital have saved the life of a Rohingya refugee child suffering from potentially fatal acute respiratory infection and low blood pressure, which required urgent medical treatment.
The hospital, which is equipped with the latest medical equipment, comes in line with the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, as declaring 2018 as the Year of Zayed, and was implemented as a joint humanitarian initiative by the Zayed Giving Initiative, Dar Al Ber Society, Sharjah Charity House and the Saudi-German Hospitals Group, as a model of volunteer work and humanitarian giving.
Dr. Reem Othman, Ambassador of Humanitarian Action, highlighted the desire of the Zayed Giving Initiative to continue its volunteer treatment programmes for vulnerable patients in Rohingya refugee camps, by providing free treatment for all urgent, contagious and chronic diseases.
Emirati heart surgeon Dr. Adel Al Shameri, CEO of the Zayed Giving Initiative and Emirates Doctors President, praised the achievements of the Emirati and Bangladeshi volunteer doctors in the hospital, whose beneficiaries have exceeded 1,000 patients, raising the number of international charity beneficiaries of the Zayed Giving Convoys to 7.5 million. He also expects this number to exceed to 20 million people by 2025.
Abdullah bin Zayed, Executive Director of Dar Al Ber, stated that the capacity of the volunteer field hospital will be increased and will include a mobile medical unit to deliver medical services to refugees at their locations, through specialist medical vehicles, which will help to find realistic solutions to their health issues and save the lives of thousands of patients, especially children and the elderly.
