The construction of the biggest US military hospital outside the United States broke ground in Germany on Friday, dpa reported.
It will replace the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center (LRMC), which is regularly in the news for treating gravely wounded US servicemen and released US hostages after they have been evacuated from Afghanistan and the Middle East.
The Pentagon is to spend about 950 million dollars redeveloping the site, a former ammunition dump directly adjoining sprawling Ramstein Airbase, the principal US Air Force facility in Europe.
