Health Minister Adel Adawi headed early Friday to a crisis management room after a mortar attack on a military unit in North Sinai.
The attackers used booby-trapped cars and mortar shells, leaving scores of soldiers dead and wounded.
Adawi ordered that additional ambulances be dispatched from adjacent governorates to move the injured to hospitals, a statement by the Health Ministry said.
Three planes have been equipped to ferry critical cases to Cairo, the statement added.
