Cairo - Arab Today
The Ministry of Health and Population on Sunday announced that the Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) law has been enforced as the practice was criminalized with legal penalties ranging from five to seven years in jail.
Deputy Minister of Health and Population Maysa Shawqi said the National Program to Combat FGM is currently cooperating with the Health Ministry administration of non-governmental medical foundations and licenses to put into force the law and its appropriate regulatory measures.
She said the first meeting to enforce the law and its monitoring measures was held on November 29 as part of the monitoring regulations and measures to punish those involved in carrying out such practices.
