Meeting

French President Francois Hollande and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon spoke Tuesday afternoon by phone on several pressing issues, notably the Ebola crisis and also the question of climate change and the energy-climate debate within the European Union.
The debate is due to be addressed by EU leaders at the next major Summit on October 23-24.
Hollande told Ban that he would seek "to convince his European partners to adopt an ambitious agreement" on limiting greenhouse gases and changing the energy mix in favour of renewable fuels.
Ban, on his side, expressed to Hollande "the importance of a European commitment for a reduction of greenhouse gases by 40 percent within the perspectives of the Paris Climate Conference in 2015." Ban also thanked France for its leading role in helping tackle the Ebola virus and the French deployment of resources to West Africa - particularly to Guinea - where Hollande confirmed a promise to build more treatment centres.
