President Giorgio Napolitano

This week, Italy's President Giorgio Napolitano gave an unprecedented testimony in a criminal trial, confirming that 20 years ago, his country faced an existential threat from the Sicilian Mafia, Cosa Nostra, dpa reported.
In 1992-1993, Cosa Nostra waged a deadly bombing campaign targeting
politicians, prosecutors, monuments and football stadiums. Judges in
Palermo are trying to ascertain whether in a bid to stop those
attacks, state officials cut a secret deal with Cosa Nostra.
