Kuwait is set to celebrate the World Aids Day on December 1, with efforts to contain the virus, killing millions around the world.
Since the virus was discovered in 1984, Kuwait had taken measures to fight it, including establishing legal, technical and health awareness committees.
Kuwait had also issued article number 62 back in 1992 to protect the rights and privacy of those infected. Moreover, the country issued article number 31 in 2008 stating that all those about to get married must go into a through medical check up to determine whether or not they carry the virus.
Kuwait took extra steps towards the matter, testing foreigners for HIV before receiving their residency permit in Kuwait, while also testing those applying to work at the General Medical Council, Rapporteur of Kuwait's National AIDS Control Committee Dr. Hind Al-Shomer told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Sunday.
Reports released by the UN and the World Health Organization (WHO) showed that the rate of AIDS infections in Kuwait had decreased, Al-Shomer noted.
The Ministry of Health provides secure, free of charge treatment and a follow up for life for the patients, she said, adding that medical care provided was of positive results on infected pregnant women who gave birth to healthy children.
