The number of hard-up families who depend on food banks to survive has doubled in the last year, shocking new figures revealed.
Charity bosses have warned that the number of people using the controversial service was on course to break through the 100,000 barrier by April next year, Daily Record reported.
Bosses at the Trussell Trust say 51,647 people accessed the service between April and September this year to pick-up a three-day supply of food.
That figure represents an increase of more than 124 percent on the previous year, with low pay driving the demand for food parcels.
And the charity - which operates a network of 48 centers in Scotland - say 15,424 children were among those to desperately seek help.
Now furious anti-poverty groups have said it was beyond belief that people in 21st century Britain are going hungry and relying on charity.
