Participants at the 64th session of the Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean, RCEM, which concluded recently in Islamabad, lauded an initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, for global polio eradication.
This came during their visit to a photo exhibition dedicated to the initiative, which was held on the session's sidelines. The session was attended by over 250 government officials and health experts representing various governments, as well as international organisations and the General Secretariat of the World Health Organisation, WHO.
The exhibition, opened by Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of WHO, aimed at highlighting the UAE's endeavour to promote sustainable development around the world, as well as the humanitarian initiatives of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, including the efforts to protect children from epidemic diseases such as polio.
The exhibition displayed more than 300 images, showing the positive outcome of the initiative in preventing the spread of polio in Pakistan and the support for international efforts to eradicate the disease.
