Six people have died as a a result of the H1N1, or swine flu, outbreak in Canada, a spokesperson with the Ministry of Health said. While 371 cases of swine flu were reported in Alberta province as of December 27, the number of reported cases jumped to 965 by January 2, Dr Gerry Predy said, haberler.com reported. Pushing people to immediately get vaccinated, Predy said one person died in the Canadian capital of Ottawa, while three people died in Edmonton and two people died in Calgary; these two cities are located in the Alberta province of Canada. Because the elderly and children are more susceptible to the H1N1 virus, Predy urged parents to vaccinate their children who will return to school from Christmas and New Year's break. Ottawa Public Health Director Dr Carolyn Pim said that the number of H1N1 cases was up to 100 in Ottawa, and a woman in her 90s could not be rescued despite several attempts. The H1N1 virus, also called swine flu, is a respiratory disease caused by an influenza that broke out in 2009 and was first observed in Mexico.
